Through an interface designed to educate and entertain, the Gagosian App for iPad was the first free app of its kind to provide unprecedented access and historical insight into the work of the world’s most distinguished artists.

Features included 360º explorations within the galleries, gigapixel zoom to view the fine-grained detail of artworks, interactive 'deconstruction' views to learn more about the artists' process, behind-the-scenes video, biographical context, and practical information including maps and calendar of exhibits.

Artists included Damien Hearst, Richard Prince, Andy Warhol, Taryn Simon, Robert Rauschenberg, Pablo Picasso, Ed Ruscha, Roy Lichtenstein, Cecily Brown and many more.

Updated in tandem with Gagosian exhibits, the app was an opportunity to editorialize works and deepen engagement for art enthusiasts and hobbyists alike.

The Gagosian app pushed the processing and gestural envelope of the newly released iPad 2 with custom production and development that gave dynamic life to the classic masterpieces. We shot 360º video that transported viewers inside Richard Serra’s massive works, overlaid procedural layers of Pablo Picasso’s paintings to reveal his personality, and used gigapixel photography of Robert Rauschenberg’s detailed collages to put users at a simulated proximity unachievable by the naked eye.
