Biography
Gale Maimane is a Film Director and photographer residing in Johannesburg, South Africa. A Multimedia Design graduate from Pretoria, who was one the 2016 Design Indaba Emerging Creatives.
Her approach to both filmmaking and photography is eclectic, offbeat and considered. Finding meaning in the seemingly small and everyday to tell relatable stories is a core point of departure for her. Her work has a candid and in-the-moment quality that tells the simplest and most complex stories, making either equally unforgettable.
Her short-film “me” was chosen for consideration by Bokeh Fashion Film Festival 2018. As well as “As Told By Us” – A visual anthology on the multiplicity of Black stories in New York City by For Africans By Africans and Afriquette; and ON SIGHT – a video exhibition held by Michealis Galley/UCT.
